Vista runs very, very slowly and eventually crashes. I too have reported this to Nero but nothing helpful has resulted so I have uninstalled Nero.

Check your event viewer for any critical, error or warning messages: from that vista "start" icon enter EVENTVWR.MSC and press return. Post if you get it to work. Thanks for the heads up re: Nero The XPS 410 to which I was referring ("quiet") is a desktop model (same case/chassis as a Dimension 91XX/92XX model, BTX with a single large and quiet CPU cooling fan in the middle of the well ventilated case.) I've not confirmed Eric's point that Nero 7 will work with Vista yet

Don't let it burn DVDs for you automatically, only use Burning Rom where you have control of burning speed. Much coaster result otherwise. Nero 6 - work with Vista ?
In other words Adaptec will often read InCD RW disks while Nero refuses to recognise Adaptec's UDF format. Have a look at alt.comp.freeware for plenty of examples of burners that work just as well as either Nero or Adaptec and are free. I use burnatonce for most writing and copying. It does not do UDF packet

Will screw up your video probably, but you can recover once it's done. I think it shifts you into Vista Basic. At least it does in 64bit. I have DVD Shrink, so I can get it on the computer, but the copy of nero I have doesn't work with vista (why not? obviously because they want more money). Is there a program on the computer already? Re. software.. a not inconsiderable amount of software does still work with Vista.. if Vista reports that software should be removed prior to installation, A case in point is Nero 7.. this software is ONLY 100% compatible with Vista from version 7.7.5.1.. this may not be the version contained on the CD from the
